As the United States gears up for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), we’re excited to tell you that John McDonough, who was a senior advisor on National Health Reform to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions when the ACA was passed, will be among the distinguished faculty at this year’s Schweitzer Leadership Conference. John later penned Inside National Health Reform, an indispensable guide to the ACA that offers a detailed account of how this ambitious and controversial bill became law.
John is now a Professor of Public Health Practice at the Harvard School of Public Health and director of the new HSPH Center for Public Health Leadership. His roots in health care reform run deep. From 2003-2008, John was the Executive Director of Health Care For All, Massachusetts’ leading consumer health advocacy organization. There, he played a key role in the passage and implementation of the 2006 Massachusetts health reform law, on which the ACA was modeled.
The Schweitzer Leadership Conference takes place on Nov. 2 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts. One of our topics is the impact of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act on health equity. John McDonough’s insights and ideas will certainly enrich our conversation about the once-in-a-generation health care reform that is coming our way. We hope you’ll join the conversation!
Beyond the ACA, the Leadership Conference will also address:
- innovative technology uses to improve health outcomes
- how race, gender, age, and environment shape health
