Schweitzer Fellows Shannon Holcomb and Christin Carter were featured Feb. 26 in the campus paper of East Carolina University for their work providing dental care to community residents.Â
Both Fellows are second-year dental students at the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine and recently organized a community event at Grimesland Community Resource Center. Holcomb and Carter, along with four medical students, provided dental care — including fillings, extractions, and instruction in dental hygiene — to 32 adults and children.Â

Similar to the universityâs mission statement of service, Holcomb and Carter have created a mission statement of their own: âAs Schweitzer Fellows, we are working to improve oral health and access to care for women and children by providing oral health education and a link to dental care in low income clinics around the Greenville area,â said.
