We invite you—and a friend!—to participate in Hats On for Service the weekend of Jan. 14-16 to celebrate MLK Day and Albert Schweitzer’s birthday, January 14.
Join Schweitzer Fellows, Fellows for Life and friends of the ASF community across the country for our annual event honoring Schweitzer’s and King’s commitment to service.
The connection between Dr. King and Dr. Schweitzer is deeper than simply sharing the same birthday month. Dr. King was inspired by Dr. Schweitzer. In 1957, when speaking about the need to find a greater cause that makes life meaningful, King offered Schweitzer as an example saying, “Albert Schweitzer…looks at men in dark Africa who have been the victims of colonialism and imperialism and there he gave his life to that. He objectifies himself in this great cause.”
What better way could there be to honor the lifelong commitment to service that both of these great leaders shared than by doing a volunteer project in your community? That’s what Hats On for Service is all about.
