Schweitzer Fellows Luke de Andrade and Hagar Abdel-Baky were recently featured on the Winston-Salem State University website for their work with seniors. Occupational therapy students Abdel-Baky and de Andrade are running an eight-week course that teaches seniors strategies for avoiding falls:
Their goal is to work with seniors on community mobility skills. In the Matter of Balance class is an 8-week program designed to increase balance and safe mobility in the senior citizen population. CarFit is a program designed to look at the fit between a driver and his or her car, including making sure the driver has mirrors properly arranged and is aware of how to operate the vehicle’s controls.
