HOUSTON-GALVESTON SCHWEITZER FELLOWS PROGRAM
The Houston—Galveston Schweitzer Fellows Program, of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, provides service opportunities and support for graduate students in health-related fields and undergraduates certified to practice upon graduation (i.e. social work, nursing, etc) who seek to help those currently underserved by our healthcare system. Founded in 2008, The Houston—Galveston Schweitzer Fellows Program was initiated by Healthcare for the Homeless—Houston and is a collaboration of area academic institutions and non-profit service agencies. The program will serve the greater Houston and Galveston area and welcomes students from all local academic institutions.
Our 2009-10 Houston-Galveston Schweitzer Fellows put the ASF mission statement into their own words:
As Schweitzer Fellows, we strive to utilize our resources and abilities to educate and strengthen our communities, serve those in need and build a legacy that will endure beyond the year of our Fellowship. We will stay true to our ideals, embody the philosophies of Albert Schweitzer and make out lives our argument.
