The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship

Dr. Schweitzer considered service to others the moral center of a fully human and satisfying life, and taught that "example is not the main thing in influencing others; it is the only thing."

The Schweitzer Legacy Project illuminates the work of Schweitzer Fellows as examples of Dr. Schweitzer's living legacy; promotes appreciation of Dr. Schweitzer's "Reverence for Life," and broadens the social impact that results when Fellows put his ideals into practice.

As a result, the Schweitzer Legacy Project inspires health and human service professionals and countless others to "find their own Lambarene," pursuing paths of effective, meaningful service.

The Schweitzer Legacy Project:

Offers Schweitzer lectures and special events in partnership with organizations and institutions
Develops opportunities for new sites and innovative programming
Creates partnerships with health and human service professional organizations
Connects with organizations around the world that identify with Dr. Schweitzer's philosophy and work
Makes Schweitzer books, articles, and films available to the public
Presents the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism, now awarded annually to a role model in Schweitzer-Spirited Service on behalf of Schweitzer Fellows for Life.
